DD2.JZ: Design concept becomes reality
BACK TO OVERVIEWA few weeks have gone by since our last DD2.JZ episode, but the waiting has paid off. After a long journey across the Atlantic, the full carbon body kit manufactured by SLEK Design has found its way into our workshop. Christian and Dominic can hardly wait to mount the body kit to our DD2.JZ.
Firstly, the two want to play it safe and lay out all carbon parts to inspect them for transport damages and completeness.
Dominic and Christian are speechless. The quality of the body structure parts is fabulous. The large carbon surfaces are immaculate. The two car enthusiasts have never seen anything like it. To be able to mount all body kit parts to our DD2.JZ, all original parts must first be disassembled. After all hang-on parts have been demounted Dominic gets down to work and paints black all of the visible parts at the base of the body structure. The paint has dried, so the duo starts with the right side and attaches the wing, the side rocker and the right sidewall to the car. The high accuracy of fit is a true blessing. The rear bumper had to be slightly modified as the tailpipe is a tad to big for our custom-made exhaust gas system. One of the last work steps includes the modification of the carbon engine bonnet before it can be mounted. Here, Dominic draws a template which enables him to cut out the exact same holes on the new engine bonnet in order to create space for the screamer pipes. The rear window was de-installed from the original boot lid and is now glued back into the new one. Now, the tailgate together with the lock cover can be re-installed into our DD2.JZ. Dominic tightens the last screws before our DD2.JZ is picked up to get a breath-taking design in the Hotrod Hangar. Stay tuned!
