DD2.JZ: Design concept becomes reality
BACK TO OVERVIEWWe have all been waiting for this day. Our DD2.JZ will get its design today. At the Hotrod Hangar no less a figure than Knud Tiroch will ensure the perfect implementation of the design for our DD2.JZ Dominic and Christian have visualised in their minds.
As the lettering will be spray-painted on our DD2.JZ, as opposed to working with a wrapping, Dominic has already had all templates made.
Even before we arrived at the Hotrod Hangar the DD2.JZ had been sanded, primed and was ready to be painted, so we could get to work instantly. The precise masking off is the name of the game for a premium paint. The masking paper is taped to the body structure accurate to the millimeter.
In the meantime, Knud attends to attaching the mask for the accent lines which will be painted in red colour.
The front bumper will get a dash of colour as well as the rear bumper, which will further enhance the massive and wide look of our DD2.JZ.
The idea to use a “tiger-like” design for our DD2.JZ was conceived over lunch during a conversation with Knud who promptly drafted the idea on a piece of paper and convinced Dominic and Christian on the spot. Implementing this look by using adhesive tapes is more than artful.
After the delicate work of attaching the adhesive tapes, no time is wasted. Knud grabs the spray gun and sprays the paint in Takata green on our DD2.JZ.
The paint dries up quickly, and so Dominic starts to carefully remove the adhesive tapes.
Today’s last work step consists of protecting the fresh paint by applying two layers of clearcoat. Only now, both the carbon’s full lustre and the indescribable design come into their own. An unbelievably exciting day comes to an end. We can hardly wait to show you our completed DD2.JZ.
