Tuning at the lake: GTI convention in Austria
BACK TO OVERVIEWposted: 2017-05-31
The event prior to the actual GTI convention is becoming more and more a real alternative to the car show at Lake Wörthersee. The fans of the Wolfsburg-based company feel the same way. But the real thing also grows: up to 15 per cent more fans were coming to the official GTI meeting at lake Wörthersee.
Prior to the official GTI convention, which took place from 24th till 27th of May, enthusiasts of exquisite tuning gathered around the Carinthian lake. With the enormous number of eye-catchers all around, it was sometimes hard to decide where to look first. Maybe at this Audi TT RS, tuned by Gepfeffert coilovers shop, this year’s main sponsor of the GTI convention.
One focus of this year’s pre-convention was the XS Carnight where gems like this Golf competed for attention.
As usual, the most important meeting point was the “Turbokurve” in Faak am See.
Here, the audience also got to set their eyes on some vehicles slightly foreign to the scene such as this 3 Series BMW E36 with an Airride suspension system and a not quite inconspicuous rear spoiler.
Thousands of tuning fans marvelled and were marvelled at.
Another eye candy was this road cruiser Audi A4 B8 Avant with an Airride suspension system.
This Polo made the long journey from England to southern Austria. The car has a very peculiar feature: it is the widest Polo in the world.
This Golf V GTI was also presented to the critical eyes at the XS Carnight.

...a few spectacular old Mercedes models.
This convertible version of a Type 181 was also put on show at the trade show hall in Klagenfurt.
This year’s show was a crowd-puller: two hours before it started, fans were already queuing up in front of the entrance.
Visitors even came from the United States: Boden AutoHaus from California brought a G-Class to the event.

At the Turbokurve in Faak, tuning enthusiasts put on quite a show as well.
From Italy, but still a VW, but with a bull: various Lamborghinis roared around the lake. This one here belongs to Lexy Roxx.
Gepfeffert coilovers shop also brought an Italian fighting bull to the pre-convention. The official GTI convention, where DOTZ was represented with a booth again, attracted thousands and thousands of visitors to Reifnitz once again.
