Kulturschock in Newcastle
BACK TO OVERVIEWposted: 2017-06-30
As of late, the northern English city has been hosting a show & shine for cars of all makes and origins. DOTZ was there for an on-site inspection.
The good people from car lifestyle brand Eurospotter have staged the Kulturschock Car Show for the second time after 2016.
There was no culture shock experience, but instead roughly 350 highly impressive cars – such as this Chevy pick-up truck. From British to American and German and Japanese, …
...from water-cooled to air-cooled, from tuned up to original factory cars – the Gateshead International Stadium had it all.
A good deal of the British show was dedicated to German car manufacturers such as BMW (as seen here with a 1 Series convertible) or...
...Porsche.
Eurospotter, the conglomerate of British car fans founded in 2013, obviously had a booth of their own in Newcastle.
There was plenty of show & shine in untypically fantastic English weather, as can be seen on a BMW with extreme chassis and one…
...with extreme extensions
as well as a Mercedes with an exorbitant rear wing.
The car spectrum presented in the stadium ranged from fully modified...
...to original versions.
Another original: this U.S. road cruiser.
Fans of Japanese precious metal also flocked to Newcastle, as this Nissan Skyline proves.
The weather also helped the ice cream vendor from Newcastle to make a lot of cash.
Another striking detail in Newcastle: the number of top-groomed cars. As seen on this Porsche as well as...
...this muscle car.
A 1 Series convertible by British automotive apparel supplier Rollin Squad.
And another original: a Ford Focus SRT.
Even a Hollywood film star made an appearance in Newcastle. “General Lee”, as the 1969 Dodge Charger is called, played the lead in U.S. TV show “The Dukes of Hazard”. 17 of the roughly 300 cars used in production state are said to still exist.
The stadium crowd of several thousands then made a move to see one of the Kulturschock highlights from up close.
The cars rolled unto the stage...
...to compete against each other
by measuring the highest decibels.
Another highlight the participants lined up for:
the car limbo.
The cross bar as yardstick for the advanced lowering of participants.
The winner of this extraordinary car contest: a Honda CR-X.
Some failed miserably in the car limbo, others managed to get “below” with it just fine.
After the car dance the Eurospotters tackled the overall rating.
The winner of 2017 Kulturschock: a 1 Series Golf, in original state except for the rims, with a perfectly de-branded interior.
That was this year’s show & shine in Newcastle: as becomes the British, the participants left the stadium impeccably well-behaved.
