DD2.JZ test ride - second take
BACK TO OVERVIEWThis time, our episode shoot isn't taking place as usual at the DD2.JZ workshop. Instead, we all meet at the PS Racing Center Greinbach. The second test ride is up, and Christian and Daniel must first carry out the final preparations on our machine, keeping fingers crossed that this time our DD2.JZ will survive the test ride with as few malfunctions as possible.
Firstly, all fittings in the interior space are re-checked and, if required, re-torqued.After the roll cage, the Bride seats as well as all fluids have been checked, nothing stands in the way of starting the ride. Daniel, who’s obviously gripped by race fever, wastes no time and loads our DD2.JZ unto his trailer to set off immediately.
Upon their arrival at the PS Racing Center Greinbach, the duo loses no time: They put on their helmets, glove up, and bring the 2JZ GTE engine to working temperature. Now, all is set for the test ride to begin.
Every year, this race track hosts a race of the “King of Europe” drift series. Under these circumstances our DD2.JZ is tested in real-life conditions. After the first few rounds, owing to a flat tyre, a brief pit stop is required. The spare wheels are fitted in the blink of an eye, and the ride can continue.
After a number of further insightful test rounds, Christian has to abort the ride. The power steering broke down and there’s smoke coming out of the engine compartment. A glance under the bonnet reveals the culprit instantly: The front end alternator drive belt has torn, resulting in the failure of both the power steering pump and the water pump.
Unfortunately, the test ride day at Greinbach has taken an abrupt ending due to this banal defect. Today, however, many more rounds were made and quite a few impressions gathered. Our DD2.JZ is noticeably comfortable on the race track and will be released again in the near future.
