Made to work outdoors
BACK TO OVERVIEWAdmittedly, we are a little proud of our DOTZ community: interesting people who, as DOTZ Team Riders, share their often masterful creations with the community, provide creative input, and sense and set new trends, are simply the salt of the earth.
Today, we would like to introduce you to a particularly extraordinary Team Rider who also pursues an extraordinary profession. His name is Sasan Amir, he is 29 years old, and his work as a wildlife photographer takes him to remote corners of the earth. Always with him: his VW Bulli, with which he is constantly on the move.
Since the Bulli serves not only as a mobile office and sleeping place but also has to conquer rough terrain at times, the extremely robust Kalahari from DOTZ 4x4 was the first choice for outfitting his T5II LWB with a powerful 140 PS 2.0 TDI engine and, of course, 4Motion all-wheel drive, for off-road suitability.
To make this Bulli even better prepared for all the challenges of his often adventurous photo projects, the camper is to be further optimised.
"The goal is to expand the Bulli into a wildlife camper that serves as an autonomous base station for my projects", Sasan tells us.
His last major tour was a three-month ride through Eastern Europe. Starting in Berlin, he crossed Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Before that, the Bulli took him to the French Vosges.
The pictures you can see on this page were taken during these travels. For those interested in Sasan’s work, there are some impressive wildlife shots here.
Clearly, someone who uses their car as a temporary home base has high demands for materials, comfort, and functionality. Sasan’s next project is therefore to upgrade the Bulli further and document this endeavour in film and photos on his Instagram channel and website.
“Since the roads are often not paved and many are not well maintained, the camper not only has all-wheel drive but also higher clearance, is equipped with 245/45/18 tyres, which I drive with the Kalaharis in 8x18 ET42 from DOTZ 4x4,” explains Sasan.
For Sasan, their photogenic appearance naturally also plays a role, as the Bulli is a frequent subject. But above all, it’s the extremely tough construction of the Kalahari, which, thanks to its SRC coating, digs through everything without showing major injuries or damage.
In the further conversion and expansion, the 1150-kilo load capacity of the Kalahari is also decisive.
In the next step, the Bulli with a medium-high roof gets a completely new interior, executed by the VW Bus specialists Moby-Van. The German company Supervolt also installs their powerful LiFePo4 batteries for the entire electrical system.
For the lifted suspension – a must for serious off-road tours – the company Seikel is responsible. “Cooperating with companies from the region was very important to me,” emphasises Sasan, who also works for National Geographic and BBC Earth, among others.
Sasan Amir and his DOTZ 4x4 Kalahari represent many other stylish and robust off-road rims, which you can view in the 3D wheel generator.
