Episode 23: X-MAS Special
BACK TO OVERVIEWIn this episode, Christian and Stefan get together at the DOTZ body shop and seem to have a lot of fun chatting about the highlights of the past year.
As the newly ordered injection nozzles wait for customs clearance, we must postpone the first running of the engine, which was planned for 2017, to early 2018. Even so, Stefan and Christian make themselves comfortable at the body shop and discuss the best moments in the last year over a warm cup of tea..
It’s been a long time since the – back then standard – BMW Z4 was parked in front of the Dotz body shop entrance gate. At that point, nobody was aware of the challenges yet to come. Within one day, RP-Tools got the entire body shop ready. From the hydraulic two-ram lift to the professional sandblasting device, we were provided with all the necessary equipment.
Shortly thereafter, the 2JZ GTE engine was delivered. The engine, which is considered legendary amongst tuners, was not only installed in the Supra model series, but also in the Aristo sedan. After the BMW Z4 engine was removed within one day, the 2JZ GTE was also dismantled and equipped with all the ordered tuning parts to be installed in the BMW body.
Much to our surprise, the Toyota drive train fitted almost like a glove in the BMW Z4 body. Only the oil pan needed to be replaced in order to make enough space for the front support.
Even the gearstick could be installed without any major adjustments, and now sits perfectly next to the new fly-off handbrake within reach of the driver.
Christian aka Lowrider.at spent two days with us, installing a racing-approved air suspension system using Air Lift components in our powerhouse. The air tank fits perfectly in the boot, next to the customized tank and Bosch fuel pumps.
It was a great moment when our DD2.JZ was pushed off the lift and stood on its own wheels (Dotz Revvo) for the first time in months. In the next steps, all the fluids were filled in for the hand-over of our new show car to ECU-Performance in Leopoldsdorf. There, a Haltech engine control will be installed and our DD2.JZ, as soon as the injection nozzles are delivered, will come to life for the first time. Stay tuned…
