DD2.JZ Master steering
BACK TO OVERVIEWIn this episode, Christian and Daniel want to put an end to the time-consuming topic of power steering. Since the two technicians took a reconstruction decision using hydraulic power steering, a few custom-made designs are required to install it into our DD2.JZ.
Daniel and Christian are taking measurements for the two steering box input shafts. To be able to connect the steering arms with the steering box, the duo must weld the input shaft of the BMW Z4 to the steering box of the BMW E46 and secure it in a special way.
Christian manufactures a special metal bush on the lathe in order to have it welded to the input shaft via the connection seam for extra securing. The bush fits perfectly and is welded after a short time.
Back in the Dotz body shop, Daniel gets to work and installs the dash lines for the power steering oil supply. These are not only nice to look at but also significantly more durable than regular power steering lines.
Now, all that is left to do is placing the fan belt and venting the steering, and the next chapter in our DD2.JZ project is completed, thanks to our inventive duo.
