The Revvo image film has reached a large number of drift and tuning fans in no time. With a "Making of" DOTZ looks behind the scenes of the "mountain jog" of the DD1.
Before the DD1 was reacted to a jaunt in the Alps for the new image film, the BMW was clothed anew. After the DD1 made the "Kings of Sideways"-sensation in his camouflage outfit, now project partner Foliatec brought up his carbody spray film to redesign the car in the color matte white with black accents.
Of course, the DD1 also got new wheels for the new flight: the DOTZ Revvo 8.5x20 ET30 at the front and 9,5x20 ET40 at the rear.
To sharpen the contrast of the white car DOTZ put on some top quality carbon parts: the bonnet, the signature kidney from BMW, the trunk lid and the side mirrors have been replaced.
And ready was the layout of the Racer, which was trimmed to 680hp thanks to new engine management techniques - after all, the mountain pass should be taken at high speed. To fit the grip with this power, Vredestein delivered some grip strong high-performance tires in size 225/30 R20 at the front and 265/30 R20 at the rear.
And off we went to the bends, so that the new Revvo comes into focus. The image film shows the DD1 and pilot Dominic Tiroch, who takes the hairpin sideways like he´s driving on rails. The question up front was: how do you follow a 680hp racing car on such a narrow alpine road to catch some stunning close-ups? The answer was parked in the garage of Dotz designer Christian: ...
... a Toyota Supra with 460 hp. The Japanese car, even Touge calibrated itself, got outfitted by DOTZ and the film crew with a bespoke camera rig to capture the drift action on the alpine road on film. The biggest test was mainly the coordination at the mountain trips, says Christian: "The challenge was the simultaneous concentration on the road, on the DD1 and in addition onto the camera monitor. Furthermore, one must of course be permanently ready for braking or evasive maneuvers. An extraordinary experience that definitely made a lot of fun, "the DOTZ designer recalls.
The film crew around Fabian Kluhs and Constantin Smola dragged video equipment with a total value of around EUR 100,000 to the mountain.
Result were some spectacular shots of the vigorous, drifting DD1 and its sideway drives up the mountain pass road. For Fabian the location especially was a great attraction: "It is something special when you have an entire alpine road for the recordings. There was a whole range of opportunities for different perspectives, but also a whole lot of effort, because we had to overcome large height differences with our entire equipment. "
DOTZ also blew our top in order not to miss a second of the action of the BMW thundering through the serpentines. So the Gecko4K team launched a drone.
The crew spent three days overall at the Tauplitzalm mountain road (thanks to the operators of the alpine road for their cooperation).
Result of all the efforts: haunting moving pictures from spectacular curve rides and not particular smoke-free drifts. What you can not see: everyone enjoyed the work. Or, as David and Christian from the DOTZ team say: "From the first brainstorming to the final cut in post production we could feel all the passion in the work on this project. You can see it in the result. "
The best images of the eight hairpins of the road with an average 9% slope were then filtered out and composed for the spectacular DOTZ Revvo image film.
