DOTZ Misano Concept - a glimpse behind the scenes
BACK TO OVERVIEWIn today's episode, DOTZ product designer Christian explains the development of a wheel design, the required work steps and the special challenges he faced with the DOTZ Misano Concept - the wheel that has been developed especially for our DD2.JZ.
In a first work step Christian measured all required technical components. These include, amongst other things, the outer and inner edges of the wheelhouse, the brake contour and the front axle’s maximum steering angle. Using these data, Christian calculated the wheel width and the required offset.“The creative process behind the development and visualization is difficult to describe,” says Christian and explains that the idea of creating a modern cross-spokes design for the DD2 popped up in his head in a flash. Next, he had to give this rough idea a form. For this work step he used a special construction programme (CAD system).
After many further working hours and numerous design versions, the formation process finally came to an end. With the 3D model completed, Christian ordered all customized components in order to assemble them at a later stage. The result is brutal. In addition to the aggressive concave design, the three-part DOTZ Misano Concept is quite sporty, stressing our DD2.JZ’s extreme form. The road version, the DOTZ Misano, will be available at all DOTZ dealers from spring 2019 onwards.
